Soft import duties on smalll cars in Uzbekistan expired on January 1, 2026. The move to reduce the rates, made 2.5 years ago, has not been extended.

In July 2023, a presidential decree cut import duties for fuel-efficient cars:

  • to 0% for cars with an engine capacity of up to 1,000 cc,
  • to 5% for cars with an engine capacity of up to 1,200 cc.

The decree underscored that the move was aimed at further developing a competition in the domestic automobile market and providing affordable passenger cars.

It was reported then that the total size of customs duties for cars with an engine capacity of up to 1,000 cc would be reduced from 39-43% to 19-23%, and for cars with an engine capacity of 1,000-1,200 cc. The duty on passenger cars (per 1000 cc) increased from 44-52% to 30-36%. (The newspaper conducted calculations using cars priced at $10,000 and $20,000.)

After the expiration of the waiver, standard rates will apply from the beginning of the year.

Now:

  • for new passenger cars up to one year old with an engine capacity of up to 1,000 cc, the duty is 15% of the customs value plus $0.40 per cc;
  • for new passenger cars up to one year old with an engine capacity of up to 1,200 cc, the duty is 15% plus $0.60 per cc.
