Uzbekneftegaz and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) have signed a cooperation agreement to develop a network of modern gas stations in Uzbekistan. The agreement was signed in Tashkent on August 22 during the fourth Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Interregional Forum, held ahead of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to the Uzbek capital.
According to Uzbekneftegaz's press service, the two companies plan to jointly study and assess opportunities for expanding the filling station network, identify potential sites for new stations, and explore viable business models and implementation mechanisms for the project.
Uzbekneftegaz and SOCAR first signed an agreement on joint oil and gas projects in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in August 2023. In July 2025, the companies signed a production-sharing agreement covering geological exploration and subsequent hydrocarbon extraction at investment blocks in the Ustyurt oil and gas region. That project was launched in December of last year.
SOCAR is engaged in oil and gas exploration, production, refining and transportation. Established in 1992 on the basis of the Azerineft and Azerneftyakhimiya enterprises, the company is wholly state-owned. It accounts for up to 80% of domestic oil production and handles 100% of gas transportation within Azerbaijan. Its largest assets include the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery (SOCAR Downstream) and a polyethylene and polypropylene plant in Sumgayit (SOCAR Polymer). Through subsidiaries and joint ventures, SOCAR also participates in major international infrastructure projects across the country.
