The Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety Committee and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to expand cooperation in radiation and nuclear safety. Signed on the sidelines of the 70th International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference, the agreement establishes a comprehensive framework for collaboration across licensing, inspection, and emergency preparedness.
Committee Chairman A. Rafikov and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman H.K. Nieh signed the document on behalf of their respective regulatory bodies. Under the agreement, both nations will share regulatory expertise to strengthen legal frameworks and develop emergency response measures for potential nuclear incidents. The partnership aims to enhance bilateral cooperation to ensure the highest safety standards in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The agreement also outlines joint efforts to modernize regulatory frameworks and share critical expertise in preparing for and responding to potential emergencies. Under this collaborative framework, both nations plan to roll out professional development initiatives for industry experts while expanding information sharing and practical data exchange between their respective regulatory bodies.
According to the Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety Committee, the memorandum will play a pivotal role in strengthening partnership ties with the United States to ensure stringent safety standards during the peaceful deployment of nuclear energy.
