Officials from the Samarkand Province Preschool and School Education Department allegedly embezzled 1.1 billion soums of public funds by purchasing 90,863 bottles of liquid soap at heavily inflated prices. A criminal case has been launched regarding the matter.
According to the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor's Office, the scheme was uncovered during a pre-trial investigation conducted by its Samarkand provincial branch.
The investigation reveals that the education department officials misappropriated and embezzled state budget funds through the overpriced procurement of liquid soap.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 167 of the Criminal Code (embezzlement or misappropriation). An investigation is currently underway.
