A FIFA delegation led by President Gianni Infantino has arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit. The visit, scheduled for Sept. 29-30, will focus on developing football infrastructure, supporting young talent and expanding international cooperation.
The Sports Minister Adham Ikramov and first vice president of the Uzbekistan Football Association,Ravshan Ermatov met the delegation on arrival.
During the visit, the guests are due to tour a number of projects and facilities aimed at popularizing football in the country, improving its infrastructure and strengthening international ties. The sides will also discuss cooperation on developing Uzbek football and supporting young players.
The trip comes as Infantino faces mounting pressure at home. He had sought to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors, including Joshua Kushner. Under the plan, called FIFA Forward Enterprise, FIFA's broadcasting, sponsorship, ticketing and licensing rights would have been pooled with the operational delivery of its tournaments. Infantino has since scrapped the proposal, and UEFA has threatened FIFA with legal action over it.
