Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates will jointly develop a project for a new Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (CASA) railway route, the press service of Kazakhstan's prime minister said.
The parties signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation under the CASA railway project. The document was concluded between the transport ministries of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and the UAE's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
The project aims to improve transport links between Central and South Asia and to open up additional opportunities for international freight, trade, logistics and investment cooperation.
Under the memorandum, the parties will carry out technical and economic studies and conduct analytical assessments. They will also examine the feasibility of developing the necessary railway infrastructure and related facilities.
The possibility of setting up a working group to conduct a comprehensive review of the project's technical, economic and financial aspects is also under consideration.
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan may take part in building the Nakhchivan railway, which would give it access to Turkey's ports of Samsun and Istanbul.
