Uzbekistan will take over the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2027, following a decision at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State on Oct. 9.

The next CIS summit will be held in Bukhara on Oct. 8-9, 2027.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev outlined the priorities of the upcoming chairmanship.

“Next year, we intend to focus on issues that deliver clear and tangible results. These are the economy, new technologies, transport, security, education, science and human capital development,” Mirziyoyev said.

The motto of Uzbekistan’s chairmanship will be “CIS: A Space of Trust and Shared Development.”

Turkmenistan and, for the first time, Azerbaijan will serve as Uzbekistan’s co-chairs.
