A new dedicated bus lane about 1 kilometer long has opened on Shahrisabz Street in Tashkent, extending the city’s bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor to nearly 8 kilometers, the Traffic Management Center said.
The continuous corridor now runs along Shota Rustaveli and Shahrisabz streets, according to the center.
The new stretch covers Shahrisabz Street from its intersection with Amir Temur Avenue to its intersection with Makhtumkuli Street, between the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies and Tashkent City Maternity Complex No. 6.
The center said BRT lanes in the middle of the road reduce buses’ exposure to congestion in general traffic. It said this should shorten delays, make services more regular and allow passengers to plan their journey times more precisely.
The center added that a single transport corridor that will eventually link the capital’s Sergeli and Yunusabad districts is being built in stages.
The first phase of the Shahrisabz Street BRT lane opened in September.
