A new 265-bed oncology center is planned in Tashkent, the Health Ministry’s press service said, after the health minister signed a consulting contract with a South Korean architecture firm.
Health Minister Eldor Adilov met Lee Won Seok, vice president of AUM & LEE Architects & Associates, to discuss the next stages of the project. The sides signed the contract at the end of the meeting, the ministry said.
Under the deal, the AUM & LEE consortium will advise on designing the center, managing and overseeing construction, selecting medical equipment, and planning medical services and the information system.
The project also provides for three-stage practical training for the center’s staff in quality of care, radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy.
The center will be one of the key facilities in a medical cluster being developed in Tashkent with the Export-Import Bank of Korea (Korea Eximbank), the ministry said.
“It is important for us to build the center to a high standard. We trust the experience and quality of work of the Korean side,” Adilov said.
It was reported earlier that the creation of a national reference pathology center for diagnosing cancer in Uzbekistan was under consideration. There are also plans for 100 young oncologist-surgeons to receive advanced training in French clinics by 2030.
