Warm, dry weather is expected in Tashkent over the coming week, with an atmospheric inversion forecast to last until Nov. 1 and potentially worsen air quality, the weather agency Uzhydromet said.

Daytime temperatures are expected to reach 18 to 20 degrees Celsius, dropping to about 8 to 10 degrees at night, the agency said.

“The absence of precipitation, relatively light wind and an inversion together may slow the atmosphere’s natural self-cleaning process,” Uzhydromet said in a statement. “As a result, concentrations of dust particles and other pollutants in Tashkent could rise or remain elevated until Nov. 1.”

The actual state of the air will also depend on the volume of pollutant emissions and on wind speed and direction, the agency added.

An atmospheric inversion occurs when air temperature rises with altitude instead of falling, as it normally does. A warmer layer forms above the cold air near the ground, limiting vertical mixing of air masses. That can allow dust and other pollutants to accumulate in the lower atmosphere.
