An armed clash occurred between Tajik border guards and three members of an Afghan terrorist organization on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, the Khovar news agency said, citing a statement from the press center of the Border Troops of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan (SCNS).

According to the SCNS, the militants crossed the country's border at 11:30 PM on December 23, 2025. Following a search operation, the group, which had infiltrated from Afghanistan, was located at 11:15 AM on December 24.

"The terrorists refused to comply with the Tajik border guards' demands to surrender and offered armed resistance... As a result of the combat operation, all three terrorists were neutralized. Three M-16 firearms and a Kalashnikov assault rifle, three foreign-made pistols with silencers, 10 hand grenades, one night vision device, explosives, as well as other ammunition and military equipment were seized from the scene," the committee said in a statement.

Two servicemen from the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) border troops were killed in the attack.

"This is the third armed attack, terrorist act, and illegal border crossing from Afghanistan into Tajikistan in the past month, resulting in the deaths of civilians and service members," the committee noted.

The SCNS accused the Taliban government of irresponsibility. "These facts clearly demonstrate that the Taliban government has demonstrated incapacity, serious, and repeated irresponsibility in fulfilling its international obligations and repeated promises to ensure security and stability on the state border with the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as in combating terrorist organizations," the State Committee for National Security stated.

The State Committee for National Security expressed hope that the Taliban will take "additional effective measures" to ensure security on the border with Tajikistan.
