In an intent to showcase Uzbekistan’s economic and investment potential, facilitate exchange of views on prospects for cooperation, Uzbekistan’s diplomatic mission in Turkey  together with the Eurasian Association of Economic Relations (EkoAvrasya) organized a conference entitled - Economic relations between Turkey and Uzbekistan in Ankara on Thursday.

The event was attended by the Chairman of the Uzbekistan -Turkey Interparliamentary group H. Yildiz, high ranking officials and representatives of Turkish ministries, departments, chambers of commerce, large textile, pharmaceutical, travel and light industry companies, Jahon news agency said.

The guests familiarized themselves with the economic and social reforms undertaken in Uzbekistan, attractive investment climate, facilities at free economic zones (FEZ ) for investors, promising projects, as well as the state and prospects for advancing of Uzbek-Turkish ties in the trade- economic fields.

In his address, the Deputy Minister of Science, Industry and Technology of Turkey Hasan Ali Çelik said that in the coming years the volume of two-way trade turnover between the countries, now at $ 1.2 billion, will increase by 2-3 times.

Stressing the special place of Uzbekistan in the history of the Turkic peoples and the Muslim world, Minister Çelik noted: "Those cities that have spread Islamic science and ethics in the world are like Konya, Bursa or Istanbul for us. We must reflect our historical proximity on bilateral economic ties. We should work on concrete areas in the interests of both countries."

The Chairman of Ankara Chamber of Commerce Gürsel Baran urged Turkish businesses to make efforts to increase trade turnover with Uzbekistan and to participate in the business forum in Tashkent in late May.

EkoAvrasya Chairman Hikmet Eren stressed Uzbekistan's great potential for progress. In his opinion, the Development Strategy for 2017-2021 initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will allow the country to make a major breakthrough in political, economic, social areas and strengthen the country's position in the world.
