The Central Bank-set dollar to soum exchange rate fell to its lowest since December 2024, the Central Bank said. Reportedly, following the “trades" on Monday, the US dollar fell by 51 soums 29 tiyins to 12,305.8 soums. This is the lowest since December 7, 2023 (12,305.17 soums).
The soums has been strengthening against the dollar for four trading sessions in a row — by a total of 1.75%, or 219.12 soums.
Since January 1, the Uzbek currency has already strengthened by 4.6% (almost 600 soums) — from 12,904.9 to 12,305.8 soums per dollar. For comparison, in the same period of 2024, the soum, on the contrary, weakened by 2.8%, and in 2023 — by 7.3%.
Thus, the trend of 2025 differs significantly from previous years: instead of a smooth devaluation, typical for 2023-2024 and previous years, the soum is steadily strengthening.
The International Monetary Fund previously stressed that Uzbekistan had positively responded to the recommendation to give more freedom to the soum. Since April, the fluctuation range of the national currency has expanded almost fourfold: if in January-April the rate changed by an average of 12.2 soums per day, then after April 18 - by 47.5 soums.
