On May 1, 2025, an event was organized at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture (LBSCIC) where the Indian community and Friends of India paid homage to the innocent victims of the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, 2025.
Candles were lit and a minute of silence was observed by the attendees in the memory of 26 civilians who were brutally killed in the terror attack. Ambassador Ms. Smita Pant thanked the Government of Uzbekistan and friends of India for expressing solidarity in this moment of grief. Ambassador described terror as an affront to humanity and urged that it be condemned in all its forms and manifestations. She also appealed for a united stand against all acts of terror.
“Today, as we pay homage to those innocent people who lost their lives, we renew our resolve against terrorism. Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April shook the conscience of the world and was aimed to undermine the integrity, the pluralist character of India," the Ambassador Pant said in her speech at the event.
“The spirit of India will not be broken by such cowardly attacks. This terror attack has been condemned by the international community and India has received overwhelming support of solidarity from across the world including from Uzbekistan at the highest level. We thank the Government and people of Uzbekistan for their strong support at this juncture. While we grieve, we also remain resolute in our commitment to fight terrorism, she concluded.
Students of LBSCIC through their performances depicted the pain and suffering of the victims. Young children held placards highlighting the message of peace and harmony and a collective stand against terrorism.
