The Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan called on the Russian authorities to pay attention to complaints about the ill-treatment of labor migrants, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said.

On May 2, Deputy Foreign Minister Bobur Usmanov hosted the Russian Ambassador Oleg Malginov, during which the parties discussed the consular and legal cooperation and labor migration.

Reportedly, the parties emphasized the high level of cooperation in the field of consular natters: with annual consultations, and the working group on labor migration holds monthly meetings to coordinate the procedure for the organized hiring of Uzbeks for jobs in Russia.

The Minister drew the ambassador’s attention to the increasing accounts of violations of the rights of Uzbek migrants and ill-treatment in Russia.

"Such cases are regarded as a violation of the rights and freedoms of Uzbek nationals in Russia, and these rights and freedoms must be ensured in accordance with the legislation of the host country, the minister added, not elaborating on the very incidents.

In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the Russian authorities to carefully study the issues raised and convey Uzbekistan's concerns to the relevant authorized bodies of the Russian Federation.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue close cooperation to ensure the rights and freedoms of citizens of Uzbekistan and Russia in the territories of both countries.

Earlier on April 30, at a meeting of delegations in Moscow, the Attorney General's Offices of the two countries committed to strengthening control and supervision over the observance of the rights of citizens of Uzbekistan arriving in Russia to carry out labor activities, as well as citizens of Russia arriving in Uzbekistan.
