Savings accounts have been opened for orphans and children left without parental care as part of the Presidential New Year’s Tree campaign, the National Agency for Social Protection said.

The government has deposited $500 into each account for over 8,000 children aged 0 to 17. The funds will accumulate compound interest and become available upon their 18th birthday, for their first independent expenses and adulthood plans.

Furthermore, children aged 9 and older and their legal guardians have been issued social cards. Reportedly, these cards are designed to ensure the convenience, security, and transparency of using state support.

The card offers discounts for public transport, payment for purchases and services, and verification of identity and eligibility for social assistance. All transactions can be tracked through the Baraka mobile app (Gazeta wrote about the cards in detail).

This support is targeted at children who are particularly in need of state support. These include:

  • orphans and children left without parental care;
  • children from orphanages, family and small children's homes, and SOS Children's Villages;
  • children whose parents died defending the country's borders;
  • children undergoing treatment at the Children's Oncology Hospital at the Taskin Hospice.

A special procedure is in place for children undergoing treatment at the Taskin Hospice: funds from deposits can be transferred to a bank card, if necessary, upon request of their legal guardians.
