MPs of the Legilative chamber passed amendments to the Personal Data Law in three readings at its today’s meeting, the lower house's press service said.

The amendments include a list of personal data that must be stored in Uzbekistan and stipulates the terms and conditions under which certain types of data may be processed and stored overseas, subject to mandatory compliance with security requirements, international standards, and regulations of authorized government agencies.

MPs expect the proposed changes to facilitate the attraction of international payment systems to the country, improve the investment climate, expand the digital services market, and create modern and convenient payment options for the public.

The amendments have now been sent to the Senate for approval.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at a meeting with American business leaders in Washington on November 6, 2025, noted that Uzbekistan was working on amending regulations on storage of personal data. According to him, this will create conditions for the launch of the Apple Pay and Google Pay payment systems, as well as for the development of digital academies and startup hubs.
