Following their talks on Wednesday in Tashkent, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier launched a series of joint investment and educational projects, the press service of the Uzbek president said.

The initiatives include:

  • Automotive: Volkswagen semi-knocked-down (SKD) assembly facility project in Tashkent;
  • Logistics & Infrastructure: Logistics center project in Andijan province;
  • Manufacturing: Producing liquid household detergents;
  • Education & Training: Training railway specialists and opening modern examination centers.

Prior to the launch, the two leaders signed a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to deepening multifaceted cooperation.

They also witnessed a bilateral document exchange ceremony. Among the signed agreements were protocols on financial cooperation, which secure grants and concessional financing dedicated to sustainable urban development projects across Uzbekistan.

Additionally, the presidents welcomed representatives from leading German companies currently operating or planning joint ventures in Uzbekistan.

The official talks, held at the Kuksaroy residence, focused on advancing Uzbek-German relations, strengthening political dialogue, and expanding trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties.

The two leaders reaffirmed their mutual interest in expanding cooperation across key sectors, including manufacturing, energy and the green economy, transport and logistics, mining, textiles, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, education, and healthcare.

They also exchanged views on regional and international issues, while discussing prospects for collaboration within multilateral frameworks, such as the "Central Asia–Germany" platform.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted his German counterpart's personal contribution to strengthening Germany's and the European Union's relations with Uzbekistan and Central Asia, as well as his role in advancing interregional cooperation.

Economic ties between the two nations have seen significant growth:

  • Trade Turnover: Exceeded $1.4 billion last year, with an additional 5% increase since the start of this year.
  • German Investments: Injected $2 billion into the Uzbek economy in 2025 alone.

This economic momentum was further bolstered in May during the German Economy Days and the 10th meeting of the German-Uzbek Business Council in Tashkent. These events culminated in a package of investment and trade agreements worth over $1 billion.

Cultural and educational ties are also thriving. Today, more than 400,000 young people are studying German in Uzbekistan, and over 2,000 students are enrolled in German universities. Following last year's inaugural Bilateral University Forum, both presidents voiced their support for hosting the second University Forum and the third Uzbek-German Medical Forum in Tashkent.

Additionally, just last week, Uzbekistan finalized an agreement with a consortium of German universities to establish the Uzbek-German University of Applied Sciences in Samarkand.
