On January 27, the first India-Central Asia summit will be held in a conference video call, the Indian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

Reportedly, the summit will be a reflection of the growing interaction of New Delhi with the countries of the region."

"Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will hold the first India-Central Asia summit with the participation of the presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in a virtual format on January 27, 2022," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The leaders are expected to discuss steps to upgrade the India-Central Asian relations to a new level and to exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, especially those relating to the regional security," the Indian Foreign Ministry said.

The leaders of the Central Asian countries were supposed to be guests of honor at the military parade on the occasion of the Republic Day on January 26, New Delhi even sent invitations to the presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. However, the plans were later canceled amid the worsening situation with the coronavirus.
