The Central Bank announced the results of the contest for a symbol for the national currency, the soum. It was held in February-March.

The total number of entries exceeded 17 thousand. The organizing committee of the competition, having reviewed the entries for compliance with the requirements, selected 508. Each was assigned an individual cipher to ensure confidentiality. A technical expertise shortlisted 54 entries.

The works were evaluated by officials of the Central Bank, the National Institute of Arts and Design named after Kamoliddin Behzod and the Agency for Intellectual Property. Uniqueness and originality, universality, recognizability, symbolic and distinctive aspects, as well as the ease of graphic perception of the symbol in various formats were taken into account.

The jury recognized the graphic symbol developed by Sarvar Zhumagaldiev as the best, "as the most creative project, which vividly expresses the uniqueness of the sign of the national currency of Uzbekistan – the soum," the Central Bank said in a statement.
