The Government of Japan, as part of its program of assistance to economic and social development, on August 1 handed over to Uzbekistan three scanners for computed tomography and a mobile medical diagnostic container made using advanced technologies, the Japanese Embassy in Uzbekistan said.

The handover ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health of Uzbekistan Behzod Musaev, Japanese Ambassador Yoshinori Fujiyama, member of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Parliament Keiji Furuya, who is on a visit to the country, and others.

Uzbekistan and Japan signed exchange notes worth 500 million yen (about $4.6 million) in free aid in June 2020 as the world faced the crisis of the new coronavirus infection. The goal of the project is to counteract the spread of infectious diseases and strengthen the healthcare and medicine system in the country.

The SANSEI mobile medical container is equipped with equipment that allows for the most advanced medical procedures. In particular, these are devices for computed tomography, ultrasound diagnostics and an X-ray machine, the press service of the Ministry of Health reported.

The container, handed over to the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Aid (RSCEMA), is designed to provide medical care to the population of remote regions and can be used in natural disasters due to the possibility of operational deployment.

Three scanners for computed tomography Aquilion Prime SP 160 KT were transferred to the RCPEMP, the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Epidemiology, Microbiology, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases and the clinic of the Bukhara State Medical Institute.

As part of the same project, Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), provided Uzbekistan with medicines to combat coronavirus and high-tech X-ray machines for the country's medical institutions.
