Today Acting Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov met with Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) Naif al-Khajraf.

Vladimir Norov noted that in recent years, cooperation between Uzbekistan and the GCC and its member countries had significantly intensified, enriched with new practical content.

The parties reviewed the progress of previously reached agreements, including within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2021 on the mechanism of mutual consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and the General Secretariat of the Council.

Naif al-Khajraf said that the GCC considered Uzbekistan as a key state in the region and highly commended the reforms being carried out in the country. The readiness of the council to take measures to more effectively use the existing huge potential for interaction with Uzbekistan and build up contacts in all areas of mutual interest was emphasized.

In addition, an exchange of views took place on the schedule of upcoming events. Particular attention was paid to preparations for the first meeting of the strategic dialogue "Central Asia - Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf" this year, which will serve to strengthen ties between the two regions.

Topical international and regional issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, were discussed.

The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf is a regional organization whose members are Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
