Pieter Huistra, who worked as an assistant to the head coach Shota Arveladze since June 2017, has been named as the head coach of Pakhtakor, the website of Pakhtakor FC said.

Between 1990 and 1995 Huistra played for Glasgow  Rangers, becoming, where he won five League medals, two League Cup medals and a Scottish Cup medal. Pieter Huistra has also played for Groningen, Vendam, Twente, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Lers and Rosendal. He scored 78 goals in a total of 413 matches in the Dutch, Scottish, Japanese and Belgian championships. He made eight appearances for the Dutch national team between 1988-91.

Huistra began his coaching career in 2000 as assistant coach of the Dutch U-17 and afterwards the head coach of the Groningen youth team. After 4 years, he worked as an assistant coach at Vitesse and Ajax. He then coached the Ajax youth team, Groningen, De Graafschap and the Indonesian national team.
