President Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent condolences messages to the leaders of Ukraine and Iran on the crash of a Ukrainian passenger plane near Tehran which claimed 176 lives, the presidential press service said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev offered the words of sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims.

On the morning of January 8, a Ukrainian passenger jet carrying 176 people crashed just minutes after taking off from the Iranian capital's main airport, turning farmland on the outskirts of Tehran into fields of flaming debris and killing all on board.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said there were 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukrainians (two passengers and nine crew members), 10 Swedish, 4 Afghans, 3 Germans and 4 British nationals.
