Uzbekistan has handed over management of Samarkand province's electricity distribution network to a private Turkish company, the Energy Ministry announced.

The project was launched by presidential decree under a public-private partnership arrangement. Modernization efforts will be led by AKSA Elektrik Perakende Satış A.Ş., which has established a local subsidiary, AKSA Samarqand Electricity Distribution, to carry out the work.

Under the deal, the Turkish partner will manage and operate the electricity grid across the entire province, including the city of Samarkand itself, though the underlying infrastructure will remain state property.

In the phase I of the 12-year project, the company plans to invest $357 million, with at least $27 million committed within the first two years.

The Energy Ministry said the project is expected to improve service quality, cut power losses, and pave the way for connecting new consumers, including industrial facilities.

The Energy and Finance ministries will jointly oversee the project's implementation and monitor the Turkish company's compliance with its contractual obligations.
