The Central Bank has accredited a representative office of Citibank AS, the regulator's press service said today.
Citibank AS is a subsidiary of the American Citibank, registered in Turkey. Citibank AS offers retail, corporate and investment banking services in more than 180 countries.
The representative office will reportedly be studying the Uzbekistan's financial market and expand cooperation with government agencies and financial organizations, the report says.
The representative office will soon open in Tashkent. Abbos Jurabaev has been appointed its chief officer. The license was issued for a period of three years - until July 9, 2028.
The plans of the American corporation Citigroup to open a representative office of a subsidiary bank in Uzbekistan became known back in September 2023 during a meeting between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Citigroup Chairman John Dugan in New York.
At that time, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev voiced support for the initiative and emphasized the fruitful cooperation with the American corporation, with whose assistance the bonds of Uzbek banks and state-owned enterprises were successfully placed on international stock markets.
