Sweden is considering hiring the nationals of Uzbekistan to fill the gap in the personnel shortage, the press service of the Migration Agency said.

Reportedly, the director of the agency Bekhzod Musayev met with the Minister for Migration of Sweden Johan Forssell. The parties discussed the matters related to preventing illegal migration, creating convenient, transparent mechanisms for organized labour migration with human rights protection in mind.

Due to the downward demographic trends, Sweden is experiencing a shortage in manpower in the transport, construction, industry, medicine, education and services sectors. While, Uzbekistan has enough skilled labour for overseas jobs.

The parties agreed to create a centralized digital platform between the two countries, whilst, planning to launch pilot projects to train Uzbeks for skills for construction, logistics and healthcare jobs in Sweden.

As part of the negotiations, the parties signed a joint declaration on cooperation in the field of migration and labor migration. The document will reportedly help prevent illegal migration, strengthen mechanisms for information exchange and consular support.

The Swedish Minister of Migration called the signed declaration a "historic document" in the Uzbek-Swedish ties.
