The Russia’s Smolninsky District Court of St. Petersburg sentenced the Uzbek national Dzhavokhir Sagdullaev, who danced with a toy gun in the historical center of the city, to five months in prison; his sentence was deemed served taking into account the time he spent in pretrial detention, the press service of the St. Petersburg courts said.
In March, the regional headquarters of the Russian Interior Ministry reported the arresting of a 19-year-old national of Uzbekistan, who, surrounded by a group of young people, danced with a toy gun near the Galeria shopping center in the center of St. Petersburg; a criminal case was opened under the article on hooliganism.
Reportedly, the court qualified Sagdullaev's actions under paragraph "a" of Part 1 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and sentenced him to five months imprisonment in a general prison.
The defendant deliberately demonstrated a toy gun during the dance, which is deemed a psychological impact on others and a gross violation of public order. Sagdullaev pleaded guilty and repented.
"The time spent in custody has been counted, and therefore the punishment is deemed served," the press service added.
Sagdullaev was released from custody in the courtroom.
