A Chinese company vowed to invest $500 million for the development of a transport and logistics corridor in Andijan province, the provincial governor office said.
On August 24, the provincial governor Shukhratbek Abdurakhmanov held talks with the executives of China Shandong Huada Group. The parties discussed foreign direct investment and implementing major infrastructure projects in Andijan province.
In particular, an agreement was reached to launch a railway and road projects worth $500 million in Kurgantepa and Khojaabad districts.
According to the proposed map, the route will begin in Lhasa (Tibet Autonomous Province, China), pass through the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Province, then through Andijan, Tashkent, and Jizzakh, before ending in Samarkand. A logistics facility is planned to be erected at the Uzbekistan–Kyrgyzstan border in Andijan province.
After the talks, Chinese investors visited the land plots designated for the projects and reviewed them on site. The cooperation is reportedly expected to boost the province’s transport and logistics potential, create new jobs, and contribute to economic development.
