President Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave a directive to connect all districts of province to the capital by high-speed electric trains at today’s government meeting on the development of Tashkent province. In meeting were present the senior officials of the province, the mayors of Tashkent and its districts.

The launch of electric trains "will increase the demand for new housing, infrastructure and services, and residents will be able to commute to work in Tashkent every day," the presidential press service said in a statement.

Reportedly, a reform headquarters was set up in Tashkent province to expedite the socio-economic development of the province. At the meeting, the headquarters presented projects it drafted.

Reportedly, a total US$ 2.5 billion worth of investment projects have been developed. Their implementation will create over 11 thousand jobs and boost export potential by US$ 434 million.

"Tashkent province has a huge untapped potential in both industry and agriculture. The main thing is that it surrounds the capital, which is the largest market for goods and services in the country. This is a huge opportunity. By using it to the fullest extent, it is possible to increase the investment, export and job creation figures many times over,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted.

There are 16 districts in the Tashkent province, the administrative center is the city of Nurafshan.

Trains run from Tashkent to Bekabad, Khodjikent and Gulistan (Syrdarya province), which call in the cities and towns of the province.

Background

A new Russian manufacture EP3D high-speed Tashkent to Khodjikent electric train, designed for more than 1,000 passengers, was launched in December 2024. It was reported that by 2030 the number of such trains is planned to be brought to 30.

Three years ago, the president set the task of establishing the operation of modern high-speed electric trains from Tashkent to Khodjikent, Bekabad and Angren. At that time, it was reported that more than 1 million passengers enter the capital from the Tashkent province every day.

The Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov noted that the current fleet of suburban electric trains is outdated and could not cope with the flow of passengers.

Even earlier, in 2021, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, visiting Chirchik, said that an electric train or subway could be launched to improve the city's connection with Tashkent. "Chirchik can be turned into an innovative city attractive for investment," he said.

In 2020, Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov (then the First Deputy Prime Minister) said that in the near future, Tashkent and Nurafshan would be connected by a overhead line.
