Dozens of children were poisoned in four public kindergartens in Farish district of Jizzakh province, the district mayor’s office said today.
Reportedly, 37 children from 3 to 7 years old in kindergartens Nos. 1, 3, 5, and 7 were admitted to the district medical center complaining of fever, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weakness between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Thursday.
According to physicians, the gastrointestinal disturbances could have been caused by foods such as biokefir, cheese, and butter, which the children had consumed the previous day. Based on an initial examination, the children were diagnosed with acute diarrhea and received inpatient treatment.
The Jizzakh Province Sanitary, Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health branch pointed to the violations of HS rules during transportation, storage, and processing of food items.
The Farish District Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case under Abuse of power or official authority charge of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, with investigation underway.
Earlier in late September, approximately 1,000 children were hospitalized in public kindergartens in the Tashkent Province as a result of food poisoning. A criminal case was opened for violating sanitary regulations. Officials of the dairy manufacturer Shark Milk Product and representatives of three outsourcing companies supplying food to the kindergartens were detained. Following the incident, checks of food supplies began at all public kindergartens.
