Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev spoke about the Tashkent to Charvak toll road project at the presentation on November 19 at the third public-private partnerships roundtable.
According to him, the Charvak-Chimgan recreational zone has high potential for year-round tourism, but the existing infrastructure is no longer able to cope with the demand.
"Sometimes we experience major traffic jams. This is disappointing, especially when demand is on the rise. However, we have built an alternative road from Tashkent to Charvak. Currently, up to 5,000 vehicles pass through per hour, but during peak seasons, this figure increases tenfold. In this regard, a toll alternative road project is being developed and is open for discussion," the deputy minister said.
The concept for the future highway is currently being developed and approved.
A feasibility study is due to be ready by mid-next year. Following the tender, the winning company will submit technical and financial proposals.
Project is is due to commence in late 2026.
The six-lane concrete highway will be 56 km long (instead of the current 82 km) and will meet 1A category standards.
The maximum permitted speed will not exceed 150 km/h.
The road will have approximately 250,000 vehicles annual throughput.
The cost will be offered by the investor.
In the summer, Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov announced plans to build a new highway to Charvak without affecting the current route.
