During his trip to Jizzakh province today, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the nuclear power plant project progress, the presidential press service said.

Integrated nuclear power plant project has commenced in the Farish district. It will include two large VVER-1000 reactors (1 GW each) and two small RITM-200N reactors (55 MW each). The total capacity of the facility will be 2,110 MW, with annual electricity production after full operation expected to reach 16-17 billion kWh, and contribute 12-15% to Uzbekistan's energy mix. The estimated service life of the plant is 60 years.

The general contractor for the project is Atomstroyexport, the engineering wing of the Russian state corporation Rosatom.

Excavation work is currently underway at the site: digging pits for the reactor buildings, preparing the construction base, leveling the area, concreting, and installing reinforcement. A temporary housing complex has been created for the construction workers.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with plans to localize the production of building materials needed for the nuclear power plant, as well as to expand training at universities.

Furthermore, a concept for erecting a single-industry town for the future plant's experts and their families was presented. The town, located 16 km from the nuclear power plant, is designed to accommodate 10,000 residents and will include the necessary infrastructure, social facilities, and service facilities.

At the end of September, Uzbekistan and Russia signed documents defining the configuration of the future nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh province. The parties also agreed on the supply of nuclear fuel for the reactors. The launch of the power units is scheduled for 2029-2035. By colocating a small and large nuclear power plant, the "most economical option in terms of megawatt-hours" is expected.
