The Moscow’s 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced the Uzbek national Akhmadjon Kurbonov to life imprisonment for the alleged terrorist attack that killed Igor Kirillov, the chief of the Russian armed forces' radiation, chemical, and biological defense forces. He was also fined 1 million rubles, RBK said on January 21.
Akhmadjon Kurbonov must serve the first 10 years of his sentence in prison, and the remainder in a special-regimen colony.
The court sentenced three other defendants in the case. Batukhan Tochiyev was sentenced to 22 years in prison, while Ramazan Padiyev and Robert Safaryan were sentenced to 18 and 25 years, respectively.
Akhmadjon Kurbonov fully pleaded guilty, while Safaryan partially admitted guilt. Padiyev and Tochiyev pleaded not guilty.
Igor Kirillov and his assistant, Ilya Polikarpov, were killed on the morning of December 17, 2024, by the explosion of a homemade bomb planted in an electric scooter parked near the general's home on Ryazan avenue in Moscow. Kurbonov was detained several hours after the explosion.
During interrogation, according to the Russian investigative committee, Kurbonov said he had been "recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services" and was promised $100,000 and an escape to a European country afterwards. According to Russian law enforcement, Tochiyev and Padiev rented a hostel room for Kurbonov, and Safaryan gave him components for an explosive device, which were shipped from Poland.
