A 31-year-old resident of the Fergana province killed his one-year-old child with a knife. According to the case file, on September 11, 2025, the man had an argument with his colleagues and informed his mother of his resignation. The woman responded by saying that her son needed to find another job and provide for the family.
At home, the defendant had another dispute with his wife, who was about to leave with their child. In an emotional state, the husband declared that the child "wouldn't go to anyone." He carried the girl into the kitchen and stabbed her in the abdomen with a kitchen knife.
According to the court file, when his daughter screamed and cried, the man became frightened and explained that he couldn't remember where he had thrown the knife or who had taken the child from him. According to the defendant, he had no intention of killing his daughter, and that the incident occurred because "his wife said words that hurt his pride."
The girl was rushed to the hospital. Despite receiving medical attention, the child died in the hospital.
The defendant partially admitted guilt, citing a state of affect, but a forensic psychiatric examination did not confirm this.
The court stressed that the case lacked elements of particular cruelty due to the lack of witnesses to the crime—the defendant's wife and mother were in other rooms during the murder.
The defendant was sentenced to 17 years' imprisonment under clause c of Part Two of Article 97 of the Criminal Code (Premeditated murder under aggravating circumstances of a person known to the perpetrator to be in a helpless person.
The man will serve his sentence in a general penal colony.
The Nemolchi.uz anti-violence project noted that the murder of a child in the context of a family conflict was an extreme case of domestic violence. Citing "stress" and "insults" cannot justify the intentional killing of a helpless person, the activists emphasized.
