Today, on May 8, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Victory Park in Tashkent to attend the commemorative ceremony for the Day of Remembrance and Honor, where he laid a wreath at the "Ode to Fortitude" monument, the presidential press service said.

"Today, we extend our deepest care and respect to the war and labor veterans who are with us in good health, as well as to all distinguished members of our older generation. This complex is truly a sacred place, honoring the courage and heroism of our multinational people who made a profound contribution to the Great Victory," the president said.

Historical records show that approximately 2 million people from Uzbekistan served in the war against fascism, out of a total population of 6.8 million at the time. Of those, roughly 540,000 perished, 158,000 were reported missing in action, more than 50,000 died in concentration camps, and over 60,000 returned home with disabilities. Nearly 214,000 Uzbek soldiers and officers were decorated with military orders and medals. Beyond the front lines, Uzbekistan became a sanctuary for approximately 1.5 million people evacuated from war zones, including 250,000 orphans who had lost their parents.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Armed Forces, state and public organizations, community leaders, and elders, all of whom laid flowers at the foot of the memorial.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also visited the Alley of National Heroes within Victory Park to pay his respects to the servicemen and law enforcement officers who lost their lives defending the country during the years of independence.

"It was no coincidence that we built the 'Devoted to the People' memorial complex here," the head of state noted. "It serves as a constant reminder that protecting the Motherland is a sacred duty for every generation—a symbol of the continuity of our patriotic traditions."

The names of 196 fallen soldiers and officers are engraved at the memorial. The president expressed his profound gratitude to their parents for raising such heroes.

"Today, we witness conflicts and wars unfolding in neighboring regions. Life itself proves once again that maintaining national unity and solidarity in such complex times is our greatest strength and our most precious asset," Shavkat Mirziyoyev said. "Defending one's country is the highest and most honorable mission. Our brave and courageous sons, who deeply understood this truth and remained steadfast in their military oath, deserve the utmost gratitude and respect."

The president emphasized that the government will continue to provide comprehensive support to the families and children of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
