Georgy Sorokin, a notorious underworld figure known by the aliases "Jora Tashkentsky" and "Soroka" (The Magpie), has been arrested in Egypt and extradited to Uzbekistan.
Sorokin was apprehended in the resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh. Upon his arrest, authorities discovered a forged Russian passport in his possession, which he had allegedly used for years to travel undetected across various countries.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sorokin was born in Tashkent in 1972 and holds the title of Master of Sports. His criminal career began at the age of 18 when he received a seven-year prison sentence. Over the years, he has faced criminal charges and served time in Uzbekistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and other nations. His extensive criminal record includes charges of robbery, mugging, extortion, and the illegal possession of weapons and narcotics.
In 2021, "Jora Tashkentsky" and his accomplices unlawfully seized two residential properties in Tashkent with a combined value of $350,000. Sorokin intimidated, assaulted, and used physical violence against the property owner to force them to sign over the deeds to his associates.
Following this incident, a criminal case was opened against him, and he was placed on a wanted list. Sorokin has now been brought back to Uzbekistan to face prosecution.
