A major pipeline at the Copper Concentration Plant, operated by the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex (AMMC), ruptured yesterday, triggering widespread attention after video footage of the incident surfaced on social media.
According to the AMMC press service, the breach occurred on August 5 at 11:55 a.m. along a main pipeline leading to the Copper Concentration Plant's tailings dam. Plant engineers and technical specialists were immediately deployed to the site, successfully repairing the line and containing the leak.
The Tashkent Province Department of Ecology and Climate Change confirmed that its Environmental Monitoring, Climate Change, and Anti-Desertification Department has launched an investigation. Laboratory technicians have collected soil and liquid samples from the area surrounding the facility to assess potential contamination.
Regional environmental officials stated that legal and regulatory actions will be determined once the final laboratory results are processed.
