A 37-hectare public park is now under construction on land adjacent to the Islam Karimov Scientific and Educational Memorial Complex, the Tashkent city administration's press service announced.
The project calls for a comprehensive redevelopment of the site to bring it in line with modern urban planning standards and the needs of local residents.
Fencing that currently restricts access to the park will be removed and replaced with new entrances and a network of interconnected pedestrian paths. Planners also intend to create a barrier-free environment for people with disabilities, elderly visitors, families with children, and those with strollers.
Particular attention will be paid to preserving existing greenery, creating shaded walking areas, and providing quiet spots for rest. The park will also be equipped with modern lighting, wayfinding signage, and safety infrastructure for visitors.
City officials said the project is part of a broader effort to improve Tashkent's environmental conditions, expand green spaces, and create comfortable public areas along the capital's main streets and surrounding districts.
The deputy mayor of Tashkent in charge of tourism, culture, cultural heritage, and mass communications, Azizkhon Shovkatov said that demolition of nearly two kilometers of fencing on the site has already begun.
Visitor infrastructure is being developed in parallel. According to Shovkatov, 10 hectares of the park will become part of Tashkent's planned "green route" — a network expected to eventually span roughly 700 hectares, linking Magic City, Anhor-Lokomotiv Park, Ecopark, the Mirzo Ulugbek Central Park, Abdulla Qodiriy Park, the Center of Islamic Civilization, and other public spaces.
"By green route, we mean an environment in which all of Tashkent's parks are connected, allowing people to move freely from one to another. This is part of our five-year program," the deputy mayor said.
He stressed that no permanent construction is planned for the site. Instead, the park will feature walking paths and rest areas, along with new benches and refurbished sidewalks built around the existing walkways. "Not a single tree will be cut down," Shovkatov said.
The Islam Karimov Scientific and Educational Memorial Complex was established in 2017 on the grounds of the Oqsaroy Residence. It includes a museum, a research and education center, a library, and a conference hall.
The head of the Presidential Administration Saida Mirziyoyeva had previously said that the area surrounding the Oqsaroy Residence of first president Islam Karimov is planned to be made accessible to the public. She has also reviewed proposals for a possible connection of Ecopark and Central Park, as well as plans to revamp the Broadway pedestrian street and other public spaces.
