A Tashkent court has concluded the trial regarding the partial collapse of a major overpass at the intersection of Temur Malik and Buyuk Ipak Yuli streets.
The $15 million interchange was opened to traffic in August 2024. A portion of the structure collapsed on March 12 following heavy sleet and rain. According to case files, the incident was caused by critical design flaws, construction defects, inadequate drainage infrastructure, and regulatory failures during building supervision and final inspection.
Six defendants stood trial, including representatives from the Uzyulkooprik Cluster, the Road Construction Directorate, the Yul Loyiha Bureau design firm, and the primary contractor, Grand Nur Yo‘l Qurilish. All defendants maintained their innocence and pleaded not guilty throughout the proceedings.
The court determined that defective construction work accounted for nearly 6.2 billion soms, while an additional 1.22 billion soms worth of contracted work was never executed. The total financial damage was assessed at 7.38 billion soms; these funds were fully recovered prior to the verdict and will be redirected to the state budget.
The defendants were found guilty and ordered to pay individual fines of 116.2 million soms. The court also barred each individual from holding financially accountable positions for a period of one year.
