To mark the 31st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Romania and Uzbekistan, Romanian Ambassador Daniel Cristian Ciobanu has sent a message to the people of Uzbekistan:
"On October 6, 2026, Romania and Uzbekistan mark 31 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. Please accept my warmest congratulations on this significant date. I wish our countries prosperity, fruitful development and stronger mutually beneficial cooperation."
"Romania highly values its relations with Uzbekistan and expects dialogue and cooperation to grow further. Uzbekistan is an important partner for Romania in Central Asia. Romania will actively support deeper cooperation between the European Union and Uzbekistan, as well as new projects of mutual interest that promote regional stability and stronger connectivity between our provinces."
"I am pleased that bilateral trade turnover grew by more than 377% between 2020 and 2025, according to Uzbekistan's National Statistics Committee, and that 2025 was one of the best years in the history of Romanian-Uzbek relations in terms of the value of mutual trade. An important event was the signing in Tashkent on November 27, 2025, by Uzbekistan's transport minister and myself, of a protocol amending the 1996 agreement between the Romanian and Uzbek governments on cooperation in road transit transport (Bucharest, June 6, 1996). Romania and Uzbekistan are also strengthening cooperation in civil aviation, as shown by a memorandum of understanding signed in Tashkent on September 30, 2026, between the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority and the Uzaviatsiya agency."
"A special moment in our relations was the first bilateral consular consultations between the two foreign ministries, held by video link in March 2026. In parliamentary cooperation, Senator Elena-Adelina Dobra visited Uzbekistan in September 2026 to attend the 12th World Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union."
"Cultural and humanitarian cooperation has produced many joint achievements. These include the visit of Romania's education minister to Uzbekistan in October 2025 and the successful participation of a Romanian delegation in the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand. In March 2026, the Romanian embassy held a creative workshop in Tashkent presenting Romanian folk traditions to mark the start of spring, and in May it showcased Romanian cuisine at the 22nd International Charity Festival of Cultural Traditions and National Dishes. In March, a Romanian-French poetry evening dedicated to the poet Gherasim Luca was also held in Tashkent. In April, two photo exhibitions opened in Tashkent: one on the monumental "Path of Heroes" ensemble in Targu Jiu, paying tribute to Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957) on the 150th anniversary of his birth, and another titled "George Enescu in France." In May, the vocal ensemble Jazzappella represented Romania at the Tashkent International Jazz Festival. Romanian representatives took part in the Tashkent Spring international opera and ballet festival and the Atlas Bayrami international festival in Margilan. I am also glad that Uzbekistan was one of the filming locations this year for the ninth season of the popular Romanian TV show "Asia Express – The Silk Road." Episodes shot in Uzbekistan aired in Romania in September 2026 and showed the country's remarkable cities, rich cultural heritage and the warm hospitality of its people. Cultural exchange also moved in the other direction: an exhibition titled "Miniature of Uzbekistan: Tradition and Modernism" was held in Constanta in April, and in September artists of the Bukharcha vocal and dance ensemble performed national dances in Bucharest."
"I look to the future with great optimism. It was a great personal honor to receive the commemorative badge "35th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan," established by a presidential decree. I regard it as a sign of high trust and a strong incentive for further productive cooperation. I express sincere gratitude and deep appreciation to the Uzbek side for our fruitful cooperation."
