A campaign has been launched in the United States against Yulduz Usmanova, the "People’s Artist of Uzbekistan," over her scheduled performance on Brighton Beach, New York, on May 9. The movement was brought to light by Uzbek blogger Nikita Makarenko.
Prominent political figures, including Nassau County Executive and New York gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman, along with New York State Assembly members Michael Novakhov and Alec Brook-Krasny, have voiced their opposition to the singer’s appearance.
According to campaign organizers, they reached out to Usmanova, requesting that she retract previous public antisemitic remarks and issue an apology. The singer reportedly refused to do so.
In response, a formal letter has been sent to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, urging him to revoke and annul any visas granted to Usmanova. A press conference regarding the campaign is reportedly scheduled to take place today, May 4, in New York City.
