Today, Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the inauguration ceremony of the Copper Concentrator No. 3 at the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine, the presidential press service said.
The project, valued at $2.7 billion, is being implemented on 196 hectares as part of the Yoshlik-1 field development program.
The annual 60 million tons ore processing capacity plant is designed to produce nearly 900,000 tons of copper concentrate and is not only one of the largest copper producers in Central Asia but also one of the largest processing plants in the world.
Reportedly, for world-class project implementation, Wood (Italy) and Worley Parsons (UK) have been hired. The plant incorporates technologies from leading global companies – Metso, FLSmidth, Weir Minerals, and Siemens.
This project has also provided a powerful impetus for the development of related industries in the province. The steel structures used in the construction are enough to build 10 Eiffel Towers, and the reinforced concrete is enough to erect 2.5 Burj Khalifa towers. This once again confirms the plant's status as a megaproject, the statement reads.
As part of the nationwide Yashil Makon (Green Space) project, large-scale landscaping and improvement work is underway at the plant site. Drip irrigation systems and eco-friendly design solutions are designed to ensure a balance between industry and nature.
Once the Plant reaches full capacity, the daily copper concentrate production at the Almalyk Plant will increase from the current 2,400 tons to 5,000 tons. While, more than 6,000 young people will get high-paying jobs.
The plant is implementing the most advanced mining technologies from the US, Germany, Russia, China, and Finland. All technological processes will be digitized and integrated into a single AI-powered control system. This will reduce energy consumption by 10%, production costs by 15%, and increase labor productivity by 10%.
The president Mirziyoyev noted that pre-design work at the Plant is progressing at an high pace, which will increase these figures by 1.5 times.
At the end of the ceremony, the president pressed a symbolic button and launched the plant.
