Kamashi district court in Kashkadarya province sentenced a 21-year-old resident of the province to seven years in prison on charges of distributing and promoting extremist ideas on the Internet, the press service of the State Security Service said.

Reportedly, since 2018, including during seasonal work in July-November 2022 in Almaty (Kazakhstan), the young man listened and watched audio and video lectures by the ideological masterminds of international terrorist organizations, promoting the ideas of “jihad” and “hijrah”.

Under the influence of these lectures, he launched 11 Telegram channels, where he promoted extremist ideas, the report says.

The convict intended to go to Syria to be involved in jihad, for which he received the necessary advice through social networks. He ignored the warnings of his parents, who were unhappy with his occupation. The State Security Service prevented his attempt to leave for Syria.

The court found the young man guilty of committing a crime under Production, storage, distribution or display of materials containing a threat to public safety and public order using the media or telecommunications networks, as well as the Internet charge. Witness testimony and physical evidence were taken into account when reaching the verdict.
