During the talks in Khiva, the presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan closely focused on the matters of ensuring stability and security in the Central Asian region, the Akorda press service reported.

In this vein, the two leaders discussed the progress of preparations for the sixth Central Asia Summit, as well as the perspectives for cooperation in the C5+ formats. The previous Central Asia Summit took place in September 2023 in Dushanbe.

In the context of enhancing cooperation in the region, the leaders of the two countries welcomed the initiatives of setting up of a Joint Venture between the railway authorities of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, providing cargo terminals on the Kazakh-Chinese border and in Uzbekistan on a mutually beneficial basis for launching cargo transportation along the China-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan route.

The project is expected to help increase the two-way trade, increase the volume of goods transit to the south.

The joint venture will be pivotal in the development of the Trans-Afghan route, the report concluded.
