A court in Namangan province has sentenced an amusement ride operator to three years of restricted freedom over the death of a 60-year-old woman who fell from a ride at a leisure park in Chust district.
The woman, a resident of Pop district, visited the park with relatives on June 12, 2026, and boarded a ride called Tornado. She fell during a downward turn, struck her head on a metal part of the ride and died at the scene, the documents said.
The operator first refused to let her ride but later relented. “I told the deceased that she could not ride because she was elderly and heavy. But she said she had come from far away and would regret not riding. So I allowed her on,” the defendant said. He said she sat alone in a two-person seat because of her weight.
The head of the private company that owns the ride told the court the operator said afterward that the metal safety bar was closed but not tied with a rope.
A forensic medical examination found the woman’s skull was fractured and her brain severely damaged, and gave brain injury as the cause of death.
The woman’s son told the court he had no claims against the defendant and asked for leniency.
The Chust district court found the defendant, identified only as F.S., guilty under Part 3 of Article 116 of the Criminal Code. It also barred him for two years from working in any role involving responsibility on all types of rides.
Earlier, four people were reported injured and hospitalized when a ride broke down at a leisure park in the city of Jizzakh.
