MPs of the Legislative Chamber today considered the Protection of Public from Harmful Noise Exposure Bill in its second reading, the Chamber’s press service said.

The bill was adopted in its first reading last July, but in August of that year, it was returned to the committee in charge for revision. The bill was later revised, taking into account suggestions from parties, deputies, members of the committee's public council, and experts.

The bill is proposing extending the "quiet time" from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, and from 10:00 PM to 9:00 AM on weekends and holidays and higher penalties for disturbing the peace during these timeframes. Furthermore, renovations and refurbishment work in apartment buildings that exceed permissible noise levels could be permitted only on weekdays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

During the discussion, the MPs stated that a number of regulations require revision and improvement. As a result, after heated debates, the bill was returned to the responsible committee for revision.
