Alisher Tursunov, aka Mubashir Akhmad’s lawyer Abdullah Sadiq said that Mubashir Akhmad was not willing to appeal the verdict of the court. However, he did not elaborate on the reason for this.
However, as a lawyer, I am not happy with the ruling. During the trial, we proved that his actions did not contain elements of crime under the Articles 244-1 and 156 of the Criminal Code.
Nevertheless, our client is the main decision-maker in this case, and further actions will be taken according to his wishes. He saw a "fair trial" and did not want to go through the trouble again".
As it turned out, the religious scholar himself is currently in pre-trial detention and has not been transferred to a penal colony.
On October 8, Judge Bobur Rakhimov, after more than an hour of deliberation, found the religious scholar guilty of all three charges brought by the state. Mubashshir Ahmad was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison, cumulatively. The sentence was to be served in a general colony and shall be deemed running from May 11, 2025.
Furthermore, the court ruled that the scholar’s social media pages would be deleted or blocked. Afterwards, on October 15, the Azon Global media group also announced that it had suspended all media activities “in order to contribute to ensuring the rule of law in society and to comply with the law.”
