Today, the Akhangaran City Criminal Court sentenced a 31-year-old convict in a closed hearing for escaping from a local penal colony while working at a local enterprise on October 16 and raping a 9-year-old girl.
According to the press service of the Supreme Court, Mirjalol Turonov was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 119 of the Criminal Code (Forcible sexual intercourse in an unnatural manner with a person under 14 years of age charge and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Furthermore, under Article 34, Part 3, Clause "a" of the Criminal Code (Recidivism), M. T. was recognized as an especially dangerous recidivist. He will serve the first two years in prison, and the remainder in a special regimen colony.
How a Convict Ended Up in a Penal Colony
As reported, Turonov was arrested in November 2017 after raping a minor and was sentenced in 2018 to 16 years in a general regime penal colony.
In August 2024, the Nishan District Criminal Court ordered the prisoner's transfer to a penal colony. Applying the Article 113 of the Criminal Executive Code, which allows transfer to a penal colony of convicted prisoners who have shown good behavior and served at least a third of their sentence.
When asked how a man convicted of a serious crime could be transferred to a penal colony, the Supreme Court stated that the decision could have been made under the old version of the law.
