Uzbekistan has been admitted as an associate member of the Intra-European Organisation of Tax Administrations (IOTA), the Dunyo news agency said.

The application by the Tax Committee of Uzbekistan to join IOTA was reviewed during the organization's General Assembly, which is being held from June 16 to 18 in the Hungarian capital of Budapest.

Farrukh Pulatov, Chairman of the Tax Committee, addressed the plenary session to share insights into the ongoing tax reforms and system-wide digitization efforts being carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Pulatov emphasized that Uzbekistan is building a modern tax framework centered around digital services, data analytics, risk-based oversight, and mechanisms that encourage voluntary tax compliance.

Special attention was also given to the implementation of electronic invoicing, online cash register systems, digital product labeling, automated risk analysis, and proactive tax assessment mechanisms.

Following a closed-door vote, the General Assembly approved Uzbekistan's application, officially admitting the country as an associate member of IOTA.

This status opens the door for Uzbekistan to scale up its cooperation with European tax authorities, allowing it to adopt international best practices in digitization, risk management, and tax administration. At the same time, it provides a global stage for the country to showcase its own milestones in tax system modernization and digital transformation.

The General Assembly session also features extensive discussions on the integration of artificial intelligence in tax administration, the advancement of compliance tools, risk management strategies, and future models for tax systems looking toward 2030.
